What is Bhasmarti?
The Bhasmarti, a one-hour ritual, involves offering sacred ash, well-prepared cow dung arranged and dried/ dried leaves of Ashwath tree to the deity and portrays one of making lives. Entry and Participation Details: Registration Needs Form
- Advance registration: It is compulsory to register in advance to attend the Bhasmarti. This can be done online via the temple official website and also at the counters available at the temple.
- Identification: Carry Identity card for registration and entry procedure. Foreign nationals are required to have their passport on them.
- Dress Code: Ladies in sarees and salwar kameez only and gentleman can only come in dhoti The wearing of Western-style clothing and leather goods is completely forbidden.
Entry Timings
- Timing for Entry: As mentioned earlier, 3 AM is the time when Aarti begins, so the devotees need to come at least before an hour earlier than this to complete their security checks and get seated.
- Temple Gate Opening: Presently temple gate opens for Bhasmarti at 2:30 AM and entry will be on first-come-first-serve basis.
Seating Arrangements
- Nandi Mandapam: Located directly in front of the sanctum, almost 2 dozen devotees can sit here.
- Mandapams: There are two other Mandapams — Ganesh Mandapam and Kartikeya Mandapam — for accommodating nearly 500 devotees.
- Barricades: Sitting outside the Nandi Hall from where you can merely look at it.
Restrictions
- Garbhagriha: During Bhasmarti, Garbhagriha or Garbh Mandir or the temple’s inner sanctum won’t be accessible.
- Electronics: Mobile phone, camera and other electronic gadgets are strictly prohibited to bring into the temple during the ceremony.
- Prohibited Articles: No sort of bag, food or fluids will be allowed inside the sanctum.
Address during the Bhasmarti
Silence and Reseperce
- Chanting (Jaap): that for pleasing the devotees have to chant God Name or Mantra and that rest of the time they are supposed to be quiet to keep the sanctity intact.
- Sitting Area Participation: Aarti is performed in sitting position, the devotees are not supposed to get up and move around during aarti.

Offering Protocols
- Bhasma Offering: Only a bhasma can be offered to a deity and it can only be offered by the Saint or Mahant of Shri Mahanirvani Akhara. No personal offerings allowed during Bhasmarti for devotees.
- Prasad: Devotees can collect prasad after the completion of the Aarti.
Process After Bhasmarti
- For offline Bhasmarti booking, you need to apply before one day.
- Application for admission will be based on the seats or space available.
- Application for Bhasmarti will be accepted only up to availability, after that no applications shall be entertained.
- The list shall be declared at 5:00 pm and admission SMS shall be distributed at 7:30 pm to 10:30 pm.
- Priorty shall be based upon “first come first get” basis.
- Every applicant shall have to produce ID card with photo ID proof. PAN card not allow.
- During Bhasmarti, the devotees shall not offer milk but only Water.
- During Bhasmarti, no devotee shall be permitted in corridor.
- After Bhasmarti is over and center Santarem (Garbh Grah) is closed no devotee or visitor shall be given or receive “panchamrita”.
- Only after the riniging of the 1st bell of Lord Mahakal, devotees shall enter center Santarem (Garbh Grah).
- Permitted devotees shall vacant immediately after ritual of “Jalabhishek”.
- During the ritual of “Jalabhishek”, ladies and gents should adorn saree and dhoti or sola respectively.
- Please bear in mind that all the devotees have only 5 min during “Jalabhishek”.
- Only devotees who have the permission shall enter center Santarem (Garbh Grah).
- In the event of any violation of above stated rules, the “Permission or Admission” shall be deemed “Cancelled”.
- Do not use polythine bags for offering milk or water to Lord Mahakaleshwer.
- In the Bhasmarti Rules, changes are possible.
